Challenges & approach

Signify consists of multiple sub-brands

Signify known as Philips Lighting is a large company that consists out of several subbrands, all with their own branding. All these brands need their own website and content management which make it possible to run every website on Adobe Experience Manager.

I was part of the Scrum team as a UX designer

Like many companies they want to work as efficient and agile as possible. Therefore Signify decided to create a SCRUM team that consists of back- & front-end developers, analysts and 2 designers. In this project I had the responsibility of a UX designer where I gather information from the ux researcher. Afterwards we created concepts, new components, designs and design documentation. We created designs in a sprint 0 principle. On top of all this, we started building a design system as a foundation for this multibrand website.

I built a design system in Confluence

Together with fellow UX designers we I started building a component based design system in Confluence. The reasoning behind the design system is to create a foundation and bridge the gap between design and development. A design system is the single source of truth which groups all the elements that will allow the teams to design, realize and develop a product.

A design system instead of graphic guidelines

At the start of the project I received Graphic guidelines, which ofcourse isn't intended for digital products. This was a problem. With the design system we now have the tools which allow us to build and share systems of components.
